PTE

Pearson Test of English (PTE) is a major method of testing English Language proficiency for making the  strong eligibility of learners based on their academics.

It is completed in 3 parts which includes:

  1. Speaking and writing
  2. Reading
  3. Listening

Speaking and Writing

To test the speaking and writing ability of a learner, several levels of examination on various topics are taken.

  1. Personal Introduction: This part does not conclude with the scoring of the exam. 25 seconds will be provided to read the prompt and 30 seconds to record answers. Answers can be recorded only once.
  2. Read Aloud: The given piece of writing should be read aloud with a maximum of 60 words. A tone will be heard in front of the microphone which indicates the test takers to speak. 30-40 seconds will be provided to prepare.
  3. Repeat sentence: The recording should be preceded after the audio, which automatically begins to play. No tone will be heard as a starting point for test takers.
  4. Describe image: Within 40 seconds, you will have to describe a picture after the tone. 25 seconds will be provided to prepare your answers.
  5. Re-tell lecture: After watching the audio-visual content played on the screen, you will have to retell the story in your own words within 40 seconds.
  6. Short answer questions: An image will be displayed on the screen, you’ll have to answer in 10 seconds.
  7. Summation of  the text : A summary of 300 words needs to be made within 10 minutes from the given writings.
  8. Essay : An essay of minimum 200 words needs to be prepared within 20 minutes of limited time on the given topic.

Reading

Within 29-30 minutes of  time, five different types of questions needs to be accomplished.

  1. Reading and filling in the gaps: A passage with some missing words is given with a drop-down button for options. You’ll have to select the right option. Time is not applicable.
  2. MCQs:  As in fill in the gaps, correct options needs to be chosen. Time is not applicable.

Re-order paragraphs: The sentences given in random order needs to be managed chronologically matching the ideology of the texts.

Speaking

This part contains 30-43 minutes of time for you to answer all the tasks on time. Audio clips and video clips are played for you to take the test.

  1. Summarize spoken text:  A minimum of 50 -70 wors should be written in summary of an audio record played automatically after listening it for 10 minutes.
  2. MCQs:  Multiple choice questions should be answered, after listening to a recording.
  3. Fill in the blanks: A transcript of a recording appears on the screen, with several gaps. After listening to the recording, you’ll have to type the missing word in the gaps.
  4. Highlight correct summary: After a recording being played and listening to it carefully, you’ll have to choose the correct paragraph related to the recording.
  5. Select missing word: After listening to the audio, missing  words should be placed in the correct places.
  6. Highlight incorrect words: After listening to the audio, you’ll have to identify the incorrect and mismatching words in the paragraph.
  7. Write from dictation: After listening to the audio being played automatically, you’ll have to re-state the sentences.
